And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. Rev. 12:17.
There are all kinds of winds blowing today, and all kinds of voices to be heard. There are shots from every direction being fired at the gift of prophecy given to this church. That is one of the greatest signs that Jesus' coming is right upon us, because that's the last thing that happens just before He comes.
"Satan is constantly pressing in the spurious--to lead away from the truth. The very last deception of Satan will be to make of none effect the testimony of the Spirit of God. 'Where there is no vision, the people perish' (Prov. 29:18). Satan will work ingeniously, in different ways and through different agencies, to unsettle the confidence of God's remnant people in the true testimony.
"There will be hatred kindled against the testimonies which is satanic. The workings of Satan will be to unsettle the faith of the churches in them, for this reason: Satan cannot have so clear a track to bring in his deceptions and bind up souls in his delusions if the warnings and reproofs and counsels of the Spirit of God are heeded."--Selected Messages, book 1, p. 48.
We can take courage when we hear people questioning the validity of the Spirit of Prophecy, even though we feel sorry for those who are involved in trying to make the testimonies of none effect. We can take courage, for it shows without question that the coming of Jesus is right upon us. It is predicted as one of the final events in the history of the church.
I believe that the inspiration of the Spirit of Prophecy and the inspiration of the Bible are the same inspiration. While it is true that the Spirit of Prophecy writings are not canonical, it is still true that they are from God in a special sense. There is a truth and a power and an inspiration to be found there that is not to be found in the works of other great Christian writers. The Spirit of Prophecy writings are above the writings of other Protestant commentaries on the Scriptures.
But none of this opposition has come as a surprise to God. It was predicted that it would happen. And we can know that it will continue, thus giving us one of the greatest signs that we can see today of the nearness of the coming of Jesus.
