Today's reading: In these chapters the great apostle gives instruction on various aspects of practical godliness, drawing often on his own experience for examples.
Memory gem: "Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation" (2 Corinthians 6:2).
Thought for today:
When Dwight L. Moody was holding meetings in Farwell Hall, Chicago, he spoke on the life of Christ every Sunday night. Listen to his words:
"When Mr. Samkey and I were in Chicago preaching, we had been five Sunday nights on the life of Christ. We had taken Him from the cradle, and on the fifth night we had just gotten Him into the hands of Pilate, and Pilate didn't know what to do with Him.
"I made one of the greatest mistakes that night that I have ever made. When I had nearly finished my sermon, I said, 'I want you to take this home with you, and next Sunday night we will see what you will do with Him.'
"I started home. They were ringing the fire alarm, and it proved to be the death knell of the city, the great Chicago fire. People rushed through the streets, crazed with fear, and some of those who were at the meeting were burned to death. Oh, what a mistake to put off the answer! May God forgive me. Today the Saviour calls; for refuge fly!"
So I am not going to put off until next week my appeal to anyone to take a stand for Christ. Do it now! Tomorrow may not be yours. "Now is the time of salvation." Now! Now! Now!
Are you putting off, delaying, neglecting the great decision? Won't you make it now? Simply bow your head with me and say. O God, I come to Thee in the name of Christ. Forgive my sins. Guide me. Lead me into the truth of Thy Word. By Thy grace, I will follow Thee to the end. In Christ's name. Amen."

Difficult or obscure words:
2 Corinthains 5:11. "Terror"--an unfortunate translation of a word elsewhere always translated "fear." The "fear of the Lord" always means a feeling of profound reverence for the Lord.
2 Corinthians 6:12. "Straitened"--restricted, or restrained.
2 Corinthians 6:12. "Bowels"--a term used by the ancients to mean the center of emotional feeling.
