REMEMBER

Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.--Exodus 20:8

While we are to stand firm as a rock to principle, we should be courteous, and Christlike in our dealings with all men.  We should tell people plainly that we cannot accept the papal sabbath, because it is a mark of special dishonor to God whom we love and worship.  But while we sacredly observe the Sabbath of the Lord, it is not our work to compel others to observe it.  God never forces the conscience, that is Satan's work.  Since God is the author of the Sabbath, it must be presented to the minds of men in contrast to the false sabbath, that all may choose between them. (Manuscript 16, 1890)

The Sabbath is God's memorial of His creative work, and it is a sign that is to be kept before the world. (Selected Messages, Book 2, 384)

There is to be no compromise with those who are worshiping an idol sabbath.  We are not to spend our time in controversy with those who know the truth, and upon whom the light of truth has been shining, when they turn away their ear from the truth to turn to fables.  I was told that men will employ every policy to make less prominent the difference between the faith of Seventh-day Adventists and those who observe the first day of the week.  In this controversy the whole world will be engaged, and the time is short.  This is no time to haul down our colors. (Manuscript 15, March 27, 1896)

REFLECTION:  "Remember" is placed at the very first of the fourth commandment.  Parents, remember the Sabbath day yourselves to keep it holy.  And if you do this, you are giving the proper instruction to your children.  They will reverence God's holy day....

Christian education is needed in your homes.  All through the week keep the Lord's holy Sabbath in view; for that day is to be devoted to the service of God.  It is a day when the hands are to rest from worldly employment, when the soul's needs are to receive especial attention. (Manuscript 57, June 9, 1897)
