     Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not: and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.  If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith? (Luke 12:27, 28).

    Consider the lilies how they grow; the grass of the field, which is here for but a day.  God gives beauty to nature, and will He not care for us?  We need the faith of little children, who sing:

                                He paints the lily of the field,
                                        Perfumes each lily bell;
                                If He so loves the little flowers,
                                        I know He loves me well.
                                                                    __Maria Straub

    Jesus revealed God as a father, and we are His children.  He taught us to pray, "Our Father which art in heaven" (Matt. 6:9).  "What man is there," said Jesus, "if his son ask bread, will give him a stone?  Or if he ask a fish, will give him a serpent?  If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?" (Matt. 7:9-11).  What is our trouble?  Lack of faith.  "According to your faith be it unto you" (Matt. 9:29).

    In the days of the Reformation, Brentius of Wurttemberg, pursued by persecuting soldiers, hid is a hayloft, under the hay.  The soldiers entered the place and ran their bayonets through the hay here and there without detecting him.  Every day for 14 days a hen came and laid an egg within his reach.  This was his only sustenance.  When the supply ceased, he took it as a sign that it was safe for him to leave his hiding place.  He found that the soldiers had just left town, and he was able to find safety.

MEDITATION PRAYER:  "Thou hast dealt well with thy servants, O Lord, according unto thy word" (Ps. 119:65).
