April 20:  Joy Through Tribulation.

Sorrow Turning Into Joy
"I tell you the truth, you will weep and mourn over what is going to happen to me, but the world will rejoice.  You will grieve, but your grief will suddenly turn to wonderful joy."--John 16:20, NLT

WHEN THEY SHOULD SEE  their Lord betrayed and crucified, the disciples would mourn and fast.  In His last words to them in the upper chamber, He said, "A little while, and ye shall not see Me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see Me.  Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy."  John 16:19, 20.

When He should come forth from the tomb, their sorrow would be turned to joy.  After His ascension, He was to be absent in person; but through the Comforter He would still be with them, and they were not to spend their time in mourning.  This was what Satan wanted.  He desired them to give the world the impression that they had been deceived and disappointed; but by faith they were to look to the sanctuary above, where Jesus was ministering for them; they were to open their hearts to the Holy Spirit, His representative, and to rejoice in the light of His presence.--The Desire of Ages, 277.

                     May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing
                       that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
                                                                                               --Romans 15:13, NKJV

                      Nevertheless I tell you the truth; it is expedient for you that I go away:
                              for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you;
                          but if I depart, I will send him unto you.  And when he is come,
                      he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
             of sin, because they believe not on me; of righteousness, because I go to my Father,
             and ye see me no more; of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
                                                                                                  --John 16:7-11, KJV
