Fiery Trials.
Being protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice, even if now for a little while you have had to suffer various trials.--1 Peter 1:5, 6, NRSV
IN THIS LIFE we must meet fiery trials and make costly sacrifices, but the peace of Christ is the reward. There has been so little self-denial, so little suffering for Christ's sake, that the cross is almost entirely forgotten. We must be partakers with Christ of His sufferings if we would sit down in triumph with Him on his throne. So long as we choose the easy path of self-indulgence and are frightened at self-denial, our faith will never become firm, and we cannot know the peace of Jesus nor the joy that comes through conscious victory. The most exalted of the redeemed host that stand before the throne of God and the Lamb, clad in white, know the conflict of overcoming, for they have come up through great tribulation.--Testimonies for the Church, vol. 5, 215.
In this you rejoice, even if now for a little while
you have had to suffer various trials, so that the genuineness of your faith--
being more precious than gold that, though perishable, is tested by fire--
may be found to result in praise and glory and honor
when Jesus Christ is revealed. Although you have not seen him,
you love him; and even though you do not see him now,
you believe in him and rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy,
for you are receiving the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
--1 Peter 1:6-9, NRSV
I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power
that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death.
--Philippians 3:10, NLT
Instead, be very glad--for these trials make you partners with Christ
in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy
of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world.
--Peter 4:13, NLT
